SWITCH FROM AIRTABLE

Move from Airtable to Kovenar

Export each Airtable table as CSV and import it in minutes — field names kept, column types inferred from the values. Here's what crosses over, and what doesn't.

Start with the table your team touches every day; the rest can follow when they’re ready.

How to export

Take the CSVs out of Airtable in plain steps. The vendor's own screenshots live in their guide, where they stay current.

  1. 01Open the table in Airtable (Grid view).
  2. 02Open the view menu and choose "Download CSV".
  3. 03Repeat for each table you want to move — Airtable exports one CSV per table.
  4. 04In Kovenar, start an import and drop the CSVs; column types are inferred from the values as you import.

What comes across

Straight from the importer's mapping — not a promise, the code path that runs when you drop your export.

Table (CSV)Table — the first row becomes the field names
ColumnsFields with detected types — number, date, select or text
RecordsRows — empty cells stay empty
Computed fields (formulas, rollups)Their current values, imported as cells

What doesn't (yet)

The same report you'll see after importing — nothing disappears quietly.

  • One table per file — Airtable exports each table as its own CSV, and each file becomes one table.
  • Long option lists stay plain text — more than 25 distinct values (or options over 60 characters) import as text, not a select.
  • Short columns can turn into selects — any column with 25 or fewer distinct values becomes a select, even free text in a small table.
  • Local-format dates, currency and percentages — only ISO dates (2026-10-09) and plain numbers are recognised; set date fields to ISO in Airtable before exporting, or they arrive as text.
  • Attachments don't travel in a CSV — files stay in Airtable.
  • Views, filters and sorts aren't carried — the CSV is the rows of the view you download.
  • Duplicate column names — suffixed (`Owner 2`) and reported.

The whole picture, across the product, lives in the trade-off list.

Questions, answered

01Why CSV instead of a native Airtable import?

CSV is the export Airtable gives everyone, on every plan. It carries the table data faithfully, and Kovenar infers each column's type from its values on import.

02How are column types decided?

From the values: all numbers become a number field, all ISO dates a date field, a short list of options a select, anything else text.

03What about linked records and attachments?

A CSV can't carry Airtable's links or files — linked fields arrive as their text values and attachments stay in Airtable.

04Do I have to move every table at once?

No — export the tables you need, in any order. Most teams start with the busiest one and move the rest over a week.
